Well, this sounds like the kind of game I'd love, but unfortunately there appears to be no way to actually start it.

Well... It works. I successfully moved and shot the other guy off the screen, so I guess your coding is sound. It's not really substantial enough to be a game though, and I have to take that into account when voting on it.

The 'Touch to start' icon doesn't make the game start.

I'll start with the good: The visuals are quite crisp and I liked the aesthetic. However, the visuals cannot make up for the lacklustre gameplay.

Using a licensed character such as Mario in anything but a parody or nostalgic crossover just reeks of exploiting the franchise purely to obtain hits and to give people motivation to actually play the game - a motivation which I personally lost rather quickly. The gameplay does not seem to extend beyond moving forward and collecting stuff. While there are some games that operate on this premise most of them have a certain degree of challenge in them which makes people want to rack up a high score. That degree of challenge, which is key in making a game of this type addictive, is missing in Run Mario 2 - except for the odd occasion when one is spawned over a lava pit, it is all but impossible to die unintentionally.

To improve the game I would personally suggest building yourself an original intellectual property and raising the challenge factor. Perhaps you could even implement some sort of system wherein high scores give you access to equipment that aids you in getting even higher scores. At the moment however, the game is unfortunately a brief and forgettable distraction.

The game isn't particularly badly made, but it doesn't stand out from other games in the genre. The control scheme seemed like kind of a step backwards from the now typical one-click controls of cannon/catapult games. I understand that you wanted to emulate using a steampunk cannon with the manipulation of knobs and levers, but from a gameplay perspective it was slightly tedious. With a more fluid control scheme and a better sense of progression - i.e spending coins to improve the cannon - this game would earn at least an extra star from me.
